Quick Tips to Clean Upholstery of Your Patio Furniture

When it comes to patio furniture, although cushions and pillows add softness and beauty to outdoor furniture, they are very susceptible to damage from the weather.

To keep your seating area clean and comfortable, it's crucial to know how to clean outdoor cushions and pillows because the fabric can collect dirt, debris, mildew, tree sap, bird droppings, and other stains from outdoor use.

The best approach to clean outdoor cushions is to follow the tips and instructions listed below, which also show you how to get rid of typical stains from outdoor materials.

Vacuuming

Here’s my take on quick vacuuming…I start by vacuuming it with a cordless stick vacuum equipped with a little roller attachment. This removes dried-up crusty stains, molds to the grooves of the cushions, and reaches into the cracks without rubbing their oozy colors into the upholstery. I avoid rolling it over anything wet and I don't roll it over living insects.

Cleaning Outdoor Cushions

Pick a sunny, warm day to clean anything that can't go in the laundry, like large cushions or umbrella covers. Prepare to put in some labor by spreading the piece out on a patio or plastic tarp.

Combine warm water and a strong detergent in a solution. Work from the top to the bottom of a piece while cleaning a tiny area at a time using a light scrub brush. After each piece has been cleansed, rinse the dirt away. Don't let the fabric's detergent solution dry on it. Rinse the object thoroughly after cleaning it completely.

Scrubbing with a Brush

Take a brush and scrub to clean upholstery. A teaspoon of a cleaning solution and a cup of warm water are added to a shallow metal dish, and the mixture is stirred until the solution dissolves. I use an old toothbrush to clean tiny stains, and a 6-inch scrub brush with an iron handle for larger ones.

The vinyl bristles of both brushes have a habit of snatching bits from the cushions' delicate weaves. After 15 minutes in the sun, the slight moist spots it leaves behind are no longer noticeable.

Drying

Use your hands to squeeze out any extra water before blotting the fabric with a fresh towel to absorb as much moisture as you can. Place the cushions vertically and let them thoroughly air dry. To hasten the drying process, place them in a sunny location.

Tips for Prevention to Make Next Year Simpler

Take a few precautionary steps once the weather begins to cool off so that cleaning your deck furniture won't be as challenging when you're ready to utilize it again next year.

·         If you have a shed or garage, cover your patio furniture or keep it there. As a result, less dirt will amass during the cooler months because this will provide it with some protection from the weather.

·         To help prevent rust and decay, seal or treat your outdoor furniture according to any manufacturer's care instructions.

·         Clean cushions, then keep them indoors. Even if you leave the furniture frames outside during the winter, you still need to do this. Because of their greater susceptibility to mold and mildew, cushions should not be left outside in the rain or snow.

How Often Should You Clean Your Patio Furniture?

Do not wait until the end of the summer to cure stains or clean upholstery. The precise stain will determine the kind of stain remover you need. For outdoor fabrics, the foaming action and integrated scrub brush are ideal.

The treatment must be given time to function in order to be effective. No product can remove stains instantly; let it at least 30 minutes to work its way into the stain. Don't forget to thoroughly clean the metal, plastic, and rattan furniture while you're cleaning the cushions.
